The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is expected to give the green light to tokenized stock trading under an "innovation exemption" that could be unveiled as early as this week, Bloomberg reported.

Approval of crypto versions of public stocks would open new access, allowing the assets to be traded on decentralized crypto platforms without the issuers' approval, according to the 18 May report.

The expected move follows several major financial players and crypto-native platforms, which have already taken the plunge into the tokenized stock boom.

Ondo Finance dominates the space, with roughly 70% market share, offering more than 260 tokenized US stocks and ETFs, including blue chips such as Tesla, Nvidia, Apple, and Microsoft, across public networks such as Solana, Ethereum, and BNB Chain.

The market capitalization of tokenized public stocks is estimated at up to $1bn, according to RWA.xyz data.
