Crypto exchange platform Rakuten Wallet will begin offering XRP spot trading,
expanding its crypto lineup and linking the token to Japan's largest consumer fintech ecosystem.
Rakuten Wallet Adds XRP for Japan Users Amid Crypto Payments Push
The listing is part of a broader addition of five assets, including Dogecoin and Shiba Inu. XRP is typically associated with payments and remittances.
Rakuten Wallet said that users will be able to trade the token and convert holdings into Rakuten Points or load them into Rakuten Cash, the group's e-money product, according to an e-mailed statement dated 15 Apr.
That structure enables indirect real-world usage. Once converted to Rakuten Cash, balances can be spent via the Rakuten Pay app across millions of merchants in Japan. However, XRP itself is not used directly at checkout.
The move deepens XRP's foothold in Japan, a market where the asset has historically seen strong retail demand and regulatory clarity. By embedding crypto within its
loyalty and payments stack, Rakuten is effectively creating a bridge between digital assets and everyday consumer spending.
The launch will be accompanied by a promotional campaign offering XRP rewards to users based on purchase volumes, signalling an effort to drive early adoption at scale.
