Mercado Libre is pulling the plug on Mercado Coin, the ERC-20 loyalty token it launched in August 2022, with all buying, selling and cashback functionality set to cease on 17 Apr, Reuters reported.
The move marks a strategic retreat for Latin America's largest e-commerce platform by revenue, which processed $278bn in payments in 2025 and had positioned the token as a cornerstone of its user engagement programme.
Mercado Coin holders should sell or use the tokens on MercadoLibre's shopping platform by 17 April, or their balances will be converted to Brazilian fiat reais, according to Reuters.
