DTCC Tokenizes Circle, Microsoft Shares in First Live Trades: WSJ

15 July 2026 - 14:56 CEST

The Depository Trust & Clearing Corp began converting shares and Treasurys into blockchain tokens on Wednesday in the first live run of a service it plans to open commercially in October, the Wall Street Journal reported.

Almost 40 firms are taking part, among them JPMorgan, Goldman Sachs, BlackRock, Vanguard and the New York Stock Exchange. The assets being tokenized include shares in Microsoft and Circle Internet Group, the Invesco QQQ Trust, State Street's SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust and the iShares 0-3 Month Treasury Bond ETF, alongside Treasurys of several tenors. JPMorgan is tokenizing part of its QQQ holding and can convert it back.

Wednesday's transactions cover collateral transfers, repo and equity trades, settling on either DTCC's private HyperLedger Besu chain or the Canton Network. DTCC president Frank La Salla called blockchain use a "megatrend", the Journal said.

DTCC safeguards more than $114tn in securities.
