South Korean regulators have suspended crypto exchange Bithumb for six months and fined it 37bn won ($24.8mn) over know-your-customer (KYC) violations, according to a report by the official Yonhap news agency carried by the Korea JoongAng Daily.

The Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) of the Financial Services Commission (FSC) found that Bithumb had supported 45,000 transactions with 18 unregistered exchanges overseas, according to the news outlet.
Korean media reported preliminary action taken by the regulators earlier this month. Sandmark has approached Bithumb via email for comment.
