Coinbase has begun rolling out regulated crypto futures trading for retail users across Europe, expanding its derivatives offering through the Coinbase Advanced platform, the company said on 9 Mar.
Coinbase Rolls Out Crypto Futures Trading Across Europe
The rollout will initially cover 26 European countries, including Germany, France and the Netherlands, allowing traders to access a range of crypto-linked futures contracts through the exchange’s MiFID-regulated European entity.
Derivatives offering
Access to futures trading will be introduced progressively on the Coinbase Advanced web and mobile platforms. Onboarding steps for eligible users include trading experience and suitability checks, alongside standard KYC verification.
Accounts can be funded using Euros or USDC before trading begins. Coinbase said the offering will include a variety of cash-settled futures contracts, covering both cryptocurrency and equity-linked products.
Available instruments include futures tied to major crypto assets such as Bitcoin, Ethereum and Solana, alongside index-based products including the Mag7 + Crypto Equity Index Futures, which track a basket of major technology companies alongside crypto assets.
Coinbase said the contracts fall into two main categories. They include perpetual-style futures, or long-dated contracts with five-year expiries that use an hourly funding mechanism to keep prices aligned with the underlying asset, settling once per day.
The platform will also offer dated futures contracts, which expire monthly or quarterly and are marked to market daily using official settlement prices.
Leverage and fees
Traders will be able to access leverage of up to 10x on select contracts, including Bitcoin, Ether and certain index products, with 4x to 5x leverage available on other instruments. Trading fees will start at 0.02% per contract, excluding exchange, clearing and other third-party costs.
The launch is part of Coinbase’s broader push to build what it describes as an "exchange for everything," expanding beyond spot crypto trading to include derivatives and other financial instruments within a single regulated platform.
