Binance said it intends to remain in the European Union after its attempt to secure authorization in Greece under the bloc's Markets in Crypto-Assets regulation (MiCA) unravelled, Reuters reported on 24 Jun.
Gillian Lynch, Binance's head of Europe and the UK, said the company is not leaving Europe and may pursue a different licensing path. Reuters reported that Binance held talks with regulators in Ireland, Latvia and Greece but faced resistance in all three, with officials reportedly concerned about its past money-laundering penalties and governance structure.
The MiCA transitional period expires on 1 Jul. Coinbase, Kraken and Revolut have already secured licences in Ireland and Cyprus respectively.
