Deutsche Bank will begin offering its digital assets custody service next year, supported by technology from crypto exchange Bitpanda, Bloomberg reported.

The German lender's corporate bank will also continue working with Swiss tech provider Taurus, the financial news agency said, referencing people familiar with the matter.

As cryptocurrencies gain more mainstream traction, traditional finance (TradFi) institutions such as 155-year-old Deutsche Bank are becoming more interested in capitalizing on the trend. Regulatory frameworks under development in the EU and the US, as well as the surge of support from the White House have also pushed the topic front of mind for the banking sector.

Deutsche Bank, which also said earlier this month it's looking at stablecoins and other forms of tokenized deposits, previously communicated its intention to provide custody services in 2022 and was among investors in Geneva-based Taurus in 2023.

This week's report comes soon after the largest network of German banks known as Sparkassen said it would enable cryptocurrency trading for 50 million consumers in Germany by 2027.
