Crypto payments have gone extraterrestrial. Jeff Bezos’s spaceflight company, Blue Origin, now lets customers of its newest spacecraft New Shepard pay with crypto. Payments will be routed through leading integrated payments processor Shift4 and will accept Bitcoin (BTC), Ether (ETH), Solana (SOL), and major stablecoins USDT and USDC. Shift4 says buyers can link popular wallets during checkout and settle instantly.

Breaking barriers
To date, more than 75 passengers have boarded the reusable rocket, yet with tickets typically in the six to seven-figure price range, international wires can be slow. Shift4’s setup promises faster cross-border settlement and fewer fees offering a “simple, frictionless experience,” according to the company’s CEO. Customers will also be able to connect popular wallets like Coinbase and MetaMask to process payments for their trip to space.
“Crypto is now a $4 trillion asset class, and the sky is the limit when it comes to its potential in the current payments ecosystem.”
Sun
The news comes just a week after Justin Sun, the founder of the Tron blockchain, finally took his Blue Origin ride on mission NS-34 after a winning $28 million bid for the first seat at the 2021 auction and deferring for years. Perhaps one day, crypto will even bring space tourism to the moon.
