Coinbase Allows AI Agents to Transact On-Chain With Payments MCP Feature

Coinbase is allowing AI models such as Claude, Gemini, and Codex to conduct on-chain transactions without human intervention to create wallets, on-ramp funds, and send payments directly, Coinbase said in a news release.  The new service uses Coinbase's Payments MCP feature and  doesn't require an API key,  it said.

Built by Coinbase Developer Platform, the system integrates wallets, fiat onramps, and payment features into one framework, allowing AI systems to execute real-world transactions through the x402 payment protocol. Key features include instant wallet creation via email, built-in spend limits, and seamless support for stablecoins.

By merging AI and blockchain, Coinbase positions stablecoins as the core payment infrastructure for autonomous agents, enabling AI-driven commerce and access to digital services without human input.
